Bends
Ashley's Bend
ABOK #1452
DIFFICULTY ●●●○○
Two interlocking loops with both ends passed together through the shared center. Clifford Ashley's own favorite among the bends he devised.
See it tied step-by-step ↗Why it earns its place
Exceptionally resistant to shaking loose under intermittent, jerking loads — the failure mode that quietly defeats many respectable bends. Also stays untieable.
Where it fails
Like all the interlocked-overhand bends, its danger is mis-tying a plausible lookalike. Check that both working ends exit together through the middle.
