Honda Knot
Lariat knot
DIFFICULTY ●●○○○
The knot that makes a lasso a lasso. It forms a small, nearly round eye that the rope's standing part runs through, creating a smooth-sliding open loop.
See it tied step-by-step ↗Why it earns its place
Its almost perfectly circular eye lets the big loop slide, open, and stay round in flight — which is exactly what roping requires. No other loop knot throws as well.
Where it fails
A niche tool: outside of roping and a few utility uses, a bowline or figure eight serves better. Finish the tail with a stopper knot so it can't pull through.
