Sheer Lashing

Shear lashing, round lashing
DIFFICULTY ●●●○○

Wraps binding two parallel poles: tied at the ends of overlapped poles it splices them into one longer pole, tied near the tips it makes hinged legs that scissor open into an A-frame.

Why it earns its place

Two structures for the price of one technique — extended flagpoles and sheer-leg lifting frames both come from this single lashing.

Where it fails

For the A-frame use, leave the wraps slightly loose so the legs can pivot; for pole extension, use two lashings spaced apart and haul everything drum-tight.
