Hitches
Strangle Knot
Double overhand binding
DIFFICULTY ●●○○○
A double overhand knot tied around an object instead of a rope end. The wraps cross over the top and clamp down in a neat, narrow band.
See it tied step-by-step ↗Why it earns its place
Nearly as ferocious as the constrictor but tidier-looking and a little easier to pick apart. Excellent for whipping rope ends and sealing sacks.
Where it fails
Still a jamming binder — assume it's staying on. It also needs a convex surface to bite; on flat or square stock it loses much of its grip.
Quick facts
| Type | Binding knot |
