Cinches loads bar-tight with nothing but rope — canoes on roof racks, tarps in wind, cargo on trailers. Once learned, it replaces a bag of ratchet straps for light duty.
Where it fails
That same leverage can over-tension and damage what you're tying down. Use a loop knot that won't jam (a fixed loop or slipped loop) or you'll fight it at untie time.
