Decorative Knots
True Lover's Knot
DIFFICULTY ●●○○○
Two overhand knots, one tied through the other, so the pair interlock symmetrically — two knots joined yet distinct. Centuries of sailors sent it home as a token.
Why it earns its place
Rich in history, quick to tie, and the basis of ring and bracelet designs to this day. As practical knots go it is modest; as a story it is unbeatable.
Where it fails
Ornamental — do not ask it to carry load. Its close lookalikes (the fisherman's knot among them) behave completely differently, which is half the fun of knowing it.
